Wow! How to get an incredible feeling in just twenty seconds flat!
- Wait for a late summers evening
- feel a headache from an on coming storm
- checkout the thunder, lightning and rain for 2 seconds
- grab a coat and get out there on the street
- smile at the neighbour who is stairing at you like you’re a loon
- run two miles in to the rain
- sprint along the pavement jumping the puddles
- laugh out loud at the watchers who are staring at you
- take death defying slips into the road where the pavement has turned into a river
- hold your coat over strange woman who is hurrying along in the rain
- on the last quarter o mile to home as the rain eases – slow into a gentle walk – and start singing…
I’m singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin’
I’m happy again
I’m laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun’s in my heart
And I’m ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I’ve a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin’,
Singin’ in the rain
What a fantastic feeling! Can’t wait for the next storm!

As those of you who have visited my site will know, I am an explorer. One of the habits that I have picked up with that trait is to pick out examples of ideas, exercises and behaviours that I feel will help in my talks, courses and workshops. Or indeed, things to write about in this ‘ere blog!

Well, last night I was watching the film The Terminal staring Tom Hanks. The film is about a man trapped in a terminal at JFK International Airport when he is denied entry into the United States and at the same time cannot return to his native country due to a revolution. Which through the auspices of Wiki I learn is based on a true story!
Its quite a delightful film to watch and is in true Hanks comedy style. My reasons for mentioning it here in the “Life Coaching” section is because of how Viktor Navorski (Hanks character) survives in the Terminal.
Consider for a moment that the oportunities are limited for him:
- No money
- No access to support network (family or friends)
- Barely speaks the language
- Some antagonism from the authorities
- No food
From his perspective he could very well fall in to the state “Woe is Me!” and bemoan his lot.
However, as the plot evolves we see how Viktor deals with these “limits”.
For money – Viktor espies that the airport has one of them “trolley return incentives” i.e. If you go to the trouble of returning your baggage trolley to its parking lot then 25 cents are recouped. Victor goes about collecting trolleys from around the airport to gain money for food.
For language – Viktor has a New York guide book in his native language. What he does – and this I really liked – he buys the English equivalent guide book and by comparing articles in each, slowly gets to grips with English.
The film stood out for me because it demonstrates that there are always options – and sometimes we have to think out of the box to get to them.
In essence thats my job – in the talks and workshops and indeed in life coaching. It is to help people see the other options. I guess its why I try and live outside of the box myself

Google is a fantastic tool for a writer who needs some research or indeed some inspiration! Here are a couple of finds that I picked up today when looking up Children and Forgiveness.
Two Forgiveness Poems!
Forgiveness is
as blue as the pen I’m writing with.
Forgiveness is
the most beautiful star
shining in the dark sky.
Forgiveness is
all over the world.
U can hear “I forgive U”
in Asia, France and everywhere in the world.
Forgiveness is
always in my heart.
When I forgive,
I feel like I burst into a flame of strong friendship.
Forgiveness is
the sound of claps of joy when U forgive someone.
– Nora, 5th grade
Forgiveness is a stream of water
carving out a gray rock over thousands of years.
That rock will be the sandy bottom of the stream.
That sandy bottom makes home for the algae and other plants.
These plants provide food and homes for many animals.
The water in the stream provides water
for the plants to grow and for animals to drink.
This all comes from the forgiveness of the rock and stream.
– Nicholas, 5th grade
Both of the above poems are from this site Dreampad. There are a lot more poems from children there so go and check it out!
I read the following moving tale on an adoption site.
Have you ever realised how forgiving children can be? Especially those below the age of 3. They always find it easy to forgive and forget.
Adults should learn from these traits and not hold on to grudges. It will surely make the world a more peaceful and harmonious place. I am grateful that I for one am able to forgive others easily. However, just yesterday I scolded my son for getting up to some mischief that only a 20 month olds can get into.
But remembering my vow to be a more patient mother, I quickly apologized while putting him into bed. I told him I’m sorry and that he’s actually a very good boy. He just has to listen more to what
mommy says for his own good (now I was starting to sound like my own mother).
The next morning, he’d start off the day cheerfully and gave me a hug and smile
that melted my heart. Children are special in the way they can always wake up on the right side of bed.
Ever since I’ve practiced waking up feeling grateful, my days have been like a child’s – knowing that there are many new things to learn in the day and all being fun and an adventure!
“Love your children and those yet to come… Embrace them and give them your love and undivided attention.. Never be afraid to get in touch with the child within you through your own children. For
you shall be cured of all adult ignorance.”
I was particularly taken by the last statement…
“…Never be afraid to get in touch with the child within you through your own children. For you shall be cured of all adult ignorance.”
Enjoy,
Kal
